Should you carry your tarot cards with you when you go about your day? Some love to draw a decision card when in need, do a reading on a whim, or connect with the deck on a deeper level. Is it just beneficial to bring your deck with you at all times, or are there downsides as well?
54% of tarot readers carry their decks with them. The benefits are many; you charge it, connect with it, are ready for readings on the go, and have access to guidance on a whim. The downsides are; the deck gets worn, lost, or attach unwanted energies.
There are many reasons you might bring your tarot deck with you when you go about your business. But might there be pitfalls or things to take into consideration? Learn everything you need to know about carrying your deck with you.
WHY DO YOU CARRY TAROT DECKS?
There are many reasons why you might want to carry your tarot deck with you when you go about your day. Some love the comfort of being able to draw a card on the go, do a reading when the opportunity strikes, connect with the deck, or in some cases, charge the deck with energy.
When you are a beginner, it’s also beneficial to carry a deck with you, as you can toggle through the deck when you have a minute or two to spare. In that way, you can speed up your learning curve.

When I asked the questions “when do you carry your deck with you” in a tarot community on Reddit, many stated they carried it because they wanted to be able to do a reading on the go.
54% OF READERS CARRY TAROT DECKS WITH THEM
I asked an active community on Reddit how common it was to carry tarot cards with you when going about your day. In total, 161 tarot readers answered the poll. It was a close between the camps.
54% stated they carry decks with them regularly or sometimes. 46% answered they didn’t.
16% stated they carry decks with them. It’s unclear if it’s all the time; I guess most times. 39% answered they did it sometimes. I’m in that category myself. I tend to bring one when I feel for it. It’s like something in me says it would be a great idea to do so some days. Often the hunch is correct.
- Yes (16%) + Sometimes (39%) = 54%
- No (46%) = 46%
My closest clients are people I meet when wandering about my day. When I told them I was a reader, they asked me for a reading on the spot. That’s the beautiful thing about tarot; you never know where it takes you.

CONNECTING WITH YOUR TAROT DECK
A benefit you get when you carry the tarot deck with you is connecting with it on a deeper level. Bring it with you to share energies and vibrations. It’s a great way to help your spirit guides on the way.
You charge the tarot deck with your energy, which will help you get in-point readings.
If you experience that your readings are dull, hard to grasp, or nonsense, it might be “tired” or need a cleanse. Try to bring it with you when you go about your day and see if charging helps. You find a link to an article about charging below.

Try a cleanse if you still have issues with readings that are off-tune. An easy way to cleanse the cards is with salt. You find more in-depth information in the article below.

TAROT DECKS AND SURROUNDING ENERGIES
A downside with carrying your tarot deck with you is that it might attract unwanted energies from people and surroundings. When you bring your deck with you, you can’t control the surroundings and parameters.
TAROT DECKS AND ENERGIES
I know by experience (I’m an empath) that we meet sluggish, negative, and sometimes dark energies. These energies are drawn to positive and bright energies. Cleansing and charging might be needed if you bring your cards along.
An important thing to remember is to always ground yourself before cleansing or charging. You don’t want any bad vibes transferred to the deck.
TAROT DECKS AND TRAVEL
If you want to bring your decks on travel, be sure to store them accordingly. Use a tarot box to protect them from wear and tear. The same goes for energies. Be sure to protect them from energies from the surroundings, people, or entities.
My recommendation is to store the tarot cards in a box along with cleansing crystals. Read more about tarot boxes in the article below.

An excellent tarot deck for travel is the Radiant Tarot deck which has a handy size and comes with a tin box. I love this deck for traveling, and I love the great mood and vibes it brings.
The Radiant tarot deck is perfect for readings out and about as most people find them positive and beautiful. The smaller size makes them ideal to fit in my handbag as well. Below is a link to Amazon if you want to check it out (Paid Link – Amazon).
BEST TAROT DECK STORAGE ON THE GO
When you buy tarot decks, they often come in a box. Be sure to keep the box as they are great to use when traveling. The picture below is my Wild Unknown tarot deck. The booklet fits inside the box, and you are ready to take on the world. The link below is sponsored.
If you have restricted space for luggage, take a look at the Radiant Rider-Waite deck above. It comes with a slim tin box that fits my handbag.
If you don’t have a box for your tarot deck, you can use a cloth. It will not protect your deck as much as a box, but you can easily sneak in a couple of cleansing crystals. This is great as it will protect your deck from unwanted energies. If you want to learn more about tarot cloths, check the article below.
